I have so many reasons to be joyful in my life, but even more so this holiday season. A little over a week ago, my family took our annual trip to NYC for the holidays. We typically make the trip in early December to coincide with my wedding anniversary.
This year our trip forever changed my family’s life. A little more than 24 hours after these pictures were taken, my son suddenly stopped breathing and was transported by ambulance to Brooklyn Hospital. The fear and helplessness I felt in those moments is indescribable. A team of emergency room doctors ventilated and stabilized him before he was transferred to the Pediatric ICU, where he would stay for six days before being discharged. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the first responders and the team of doctors and nurses at Brooklyn Hospital, my son is well on his way to a full recovery.
It may seem a bit out of place to share this story in a post about a holiday look, but it so happens that I shot this outfit in collaboration with JCPenney to celebrate #JoyWorthGiving this Christmas. As I sought to capture the holiday spirit in the bustling city, I had no idea that my life would be turned upside down just a day later. Now, that experience serves as a reminder of how blessed I am to celebrate Christmas with my family and friends, especially my son.
While the true meaning of Christmas is about much more than gifts, the tradition of gift giving is one of the ways we celebrate the spirit of the holidays. Part of the joy we experience this time of year is the way it feels to give a special gift to a family member or friend. Not an expensive indulgence, but something that shows you took the time to find the “perfect” gift that fits their personality or style. In a time when gift cards have become all to common, I will be putting a little more effort this year into finding something special for all those who are dearest to me.
Now that we are safely home, I’m more than happy to get back to some of things that bring joy to my daily life, like sharing fun looks with all of my wonderful readers. So, enough with all the heavy stuff – on to the outfit!
This is my second opportunity to style a Liz Claiborne look in collaboration with JCPenney, and I can honestly say I’m impressed by the on-trend styles offered by Liz Claiborne at a great value. I don’t believe that holiday shopping should break the bank (nothing about going into debt is consistent with the meaning of Christmas), so sharing a brand that represents affordable style is much more appealing to me.
I am a big fan of faux fur sweater vests, and this one is no exception. The soft white faux fir makes it both versatile and cozy. I selected the blouse because I the gold details make it perfect for a holiday look, but will also stay in style throughout the winter season.
As part of my collaboration with JCPenney, one lucky reader will receive this fabulous Liz Claiborne charging wallet! I used mine during our trip to NYC, and it worked perfectly.
