It is less than a month away from my ten year wedding anniversary. A ten year anniversary is a momentous occasion for many couples, but it is particularly special to my husband and I. It has been an adventurous ten years for us, to say the least.
Less than a year into our marriage I began experiencing symptoms which the doctors thought were MS or lupus related, but tests quickly ruled those out. Two years later, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Our journey has been filled with laughter, a few tears of pain, but also lots of joy. In more recent years, our efforts to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and support the quest for a cure have given us a greater sense of purpose and brought us closer together.
In July, the hubs surprised me on my birthday with a vow renewal trip to New York City. We love the city and travel there almost every December to celebrate our wedding anniversary. He presented me with a lovely binder full of venue options, hotels, and restaurants he contacted. He even included a guest list of family and close friends he had already invited to New York for the ceremony!
I was shocked and overwhelmed with joy. This was truly the most sincere gift I’ve ever received from my husband. He devoted so much time and effort to making sure all of the details were arranged so all I had to do was look in the binder and decide what I wanted. I’m a lucky lady.
Over the next few weeks I will be sharing pieces of our planning the vow renewals – venue selection, the perfect gown for me, and of course my shoe selection. It has been fun to plan, and I look forward to taking you on the journey to our ceremony.
